I've Been Naughty....

I came home from work really down today, had a very tough day and I am finding the diet very hard to stick with lately. Karen could see I was unhappy and suggested I play a freeroll or two, I used to be the king of free roll's (see Poker Player Magazine article attached) and I also wrote a few articles about them myself, there on the blog somewhere.

I have a good sense of the best way to modify the gamble in my game to the conditions required to get chips in free rolls. First up I played a Walker poker free roll, 500 runners and came 10th when I got all the money in preflop with aces against the only player at the final table who had me coverd who had 10's. Guess what flopped! I earned a grand total of $1 I shit you not, some reward for three hours play!

I had cashed out all my money from Full Tilt so decided to play a FT player point Sit and Go, 9 players winner get's a $24 + $2 token. I won this then enterd the 9.5K G, and came second. Should have won but made a bad fold heads up followed by a bad shove.

I think we have sort of tacitely agreed I can play one evening a month, I found cold turkey just too hard. It's an interesting dilema though because this money will come in very handy but does the end justify the means?

Hi Kevin. Glad things are working out for you in poker and in life.
It was very courageous of you to publicly admit you had a bit of a problem with the excessive keyboard bashing.
Anyway kevin, i think you were spot on. poker is a great game, but it's just a game. Your family have always got to come first.
Just wanted to wish you and the family all the best for the future. You're a genuinely funny and nice bloke Kev and i do hope we can bump into each other once in a while for a friendly game of poker.
Look after yourself mate.

Cheers Rage, thanks for taking the time to post. Nothing would give me more pleasure than sitting at the table with your good self. I just hope one day I regain the correct perspective on all things poker.

Cheers Kev

Hi Kev,
Glad to hear you are at the tables again and in control. But 1 game a month IMO is a bit sparse even considering your previous dilema. I mean peeps who play any other sport/game do so at least once a week. Please don't tell Karen I made this comment as I don't want to get into trouble lol. Good luck.

I can tell you what you want to hear or I can tell you what I actually think.......

You know that you will win money as you can play poker well. You know that you will use this to justify playing poker.

I know for a fact that it is not possible to give up an addiction if you don't really want to.

I suggest that you find a better compromise with your wife if it is not possible for you to give up.

Once a month will not satisfy you and your missus will get pissed off
when you fall off the wagon.

I suggest you negotiate one poker evening a week and stick to that religiously.

If you can successfully stick with that then I doubt your good lady will be too concerned and you will have 6 evenings a week to spend with your family.

Sorry if that sounds a bit preachy but it is meant with the best of intentions.

All the best mate.

No worries Joe, I really appreciate you taking the time to offer your opinions.

Its something im really struggling with and as much as I think giving up would probable be the correct thing to do I just can't give the game up, becaue as you mentioned I don't really want too.

As you say though im already starting to take the piss with it and I spent 2 hours playing 2/4 the other night which was a strict no no.

Fcuk knows where I go from here.
